  • In appointment and consultation scheduling, a longer booked slot does lengthen the visit, but by less than the time added: across randomised trials of family-physician appointment length, consultations ran shorter than their slots and lengthened sub-proportionally — 5-, 7.5- and 10-minute appointments produced median consultations of 4.3, 6.4 and 7.0 minutes — with the shortfall largest exactly where the container most exceeded the need.
