What is being counted¶
A word here is a word a visitor can read: the count is taken on the rendered site, page by page, over each page's content body only (the navigation sidebar, which the site re-renders on every page, is excluded), with markup stripped and the text split on whitespace. It is measured after each full build and is approximate by design.
Two consequences are worth knowing before comparing sections:
- Prime and domain-specific abstractions are counted in both of their views. Each has a Concise and a Detailed page, so their rows carry roughly the Detailed prose plus the Concise summary of it.
- Reference pages re-quote the articles. A reference page lists every sentence that cites the work, so the References row includes text that already appears in the articles it points at. It is the price of being able to see, on one page, what the encyclopedia rests on a source for.
"Everything else" is the Home page, the foundations and applications sections, the conceptual essays, the origin-domain and family indexes, the atlas and the downloads.
