Cut-up technique¶
An aleatory composition method that fragments an existing text and rearranges the pieces into a new sequence.
Core Idea¶
The cut-up technique divides source material into words, phrases, or blocks and recombines them by chance, constraint, or editorial selection to disrupt inherited syntax and narrative. Physical or conceptual cutting breaks local continuity; recombination reveals unexpected associations while traces of the source remain available for recognition and revision. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
