Demographic window¶
The period when a population’s working-age share is unusually high relative to dependent young and older groups, creating potential for a demographic dividend.
Core Idea¶
Age bounds and dependency definitions vary, the window creates opportunity rather than automatic growth, migration labor participation gender inequality health education and employment determine realization and eventual population aging closes the window. Fertility decline reduces child dependency before the large working cohort reaches old age; if institutions employ and support that cohort, savings production and fiscal capacity can rise temporarily.
