Difrasismo¶
A Mesoamerican rhetorical construction pairing two words into one conventional metaphorical meaning not reducible to their separate literal senses.
Core Idea¶
The category is especially documented in Classical Nahuatl and Maya texts, and identification requires historical language evidence rather than treating any coordination as difrasismo. Two culturally associated lexical items are juxtaposed, their recurrent pairing activates a conventional third concept and parallelism and oral-poetic tradition stabilize the unit across texts. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
