Esthesic and poietic¶
A semiotic distinction between the processes and analyses of producing a symbolic form and those of perceiving or interpreting it.
Core Idea¶
Poietic analysis reconstructs creative and production conditions, esthesic analysis studies reception and meaning-making, and the neutral level describes the trace itself without assuming the two processes coincide. A symbolic trace mediates between a producer’s generative acts and a receiver’s interpretive acts, allowing evidence and models on each side to be analyzed independently. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
