Expansionist nationalism¶
A radical nationalist ideology that defines national fulfillment through territorial enlargement or recovery, often portraying external groups as threats and legitimizing coercive expansion.
Core Idea¶
It differs from ordinary patriotism and cultural nationalism, irredentism targets claimed co-nationals or historic territory while expansionism can go beyond them and historical classification must distinguish rhetoric policy capacity and actual conquest. Leaders fuse an idealized national past and ethnocultural identity with grievance fear and territorial claims, mobilizing institutions and populations around militarization annexation or settlement as restoration or destiny. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
Expansionist nationalism belongs to political ideology and is useful where the analyst can specify the typed political ideology carrier, including objects, relations, parameters, conventions, evidence, boundaries, and comparison targets, then evaluate the nation ethnicity or imagined community, territorial homeland and claimed borders, historical grievance myth and recovery narrative, out-group threat construction, autonomous or supremacist identity, expansion annexation settlement or irredentist goal, militarism and coercive legitimation, state movement and propaganda institutions, domestic support and resistance and distinction from civic nationalism colonialism and defensive territorial policy are explicit.
Clarity¶
The abstraction clarifies a crowded vocabulary by making the nation ethnicity or imagined community, territorial homeland and claimed borders, historical grievance myth and recovery narrative, out-group threat construction, autonomous or supremacist identity, expansion annexation settlement or irredentist goal, militarism and coercive legitimation, state movement and propaganda institutions, domestic support and resistance and distinction from civic nationalism colonialism and defensive territorial policy are explicit the center of the account.
Manages Complexity¶
Without the abstraction, an analyst must reason directly over many local details: the carrier roles, admissibility assumptions, competing conventions, derived invariants, boundary cases, and proof or validation obligations specific to Expansionist nationalism. Expansionist nationalism compresses them into the roles in the structural signature. That compression permits comparison across instances without erasing the variables that determine validity. It also exposes which details may be varied safely and which are constitutive.
Abstract Reasoning¶
- Identify the carrier. State what the elements, states, objects, or observations are: the typed political ideology carrier, including objects, relations, parameters, conventions, evidence, boundaries, and comparison targets. Reject examples whose alleged carrier belongs to a different problem. 2. Lock the constitutive rule. Express the nation ethnicity or imagined community, territorial homeland and claimed borders, historical grievance myth and recovery narrative, out-group threat construction, autonomous or supremacist identity, expansion annexation settlement or irredentist goal, militarism and coercive legitimation, state movement and propaganda institutions, domestic support and resistance and distinction from civic nationalism colonialism and defensive territorial policy are explicit independently of one notation or implementation.
Knowledge Transfer¶
Knowledge transfers strongly among subfields of political ideology because they reuse the typed political ideology carrier, including objects, relations, parameters, conventions, evidence, boundaries, and comparison targets, Leaders fuse an idealized national past and ethnocultural identity with grievance fear and territorial claims, mobilizing institutions and populations around militarization annexation or settlement as restoration or destiny., and type the carrier, state every parameter and convention in the definition, test that the nation ethnicity or imagined community, territorial homeland and claimed borders, historical grievance myth and recovery narrative, out-group threat construction, autonomous or supremacist identity, expansion annexation settlement or irredentist goal, militarism and coercive legitimation, state movement and propaganda institutions, domestic support and resistance and distinction from civic nationalism colonialism and defensive territorial policy are explicit, compare the nearest accepted identity, and report counterexamples, uncertainty, and limiting cases.
