- Downs–Thomson Paradox — The transport result that equilibrium car travel time is set not by road capacity but by the quality of the parallel transit alternative — because expanding roads bleeds ridership, degrades patronage-elastic transit service, and pushes riders back until the road re-congests.
- Intermediate-Scale Option (the "missing middle") — Diagnose a hollowed-out middle of some continuum — building size, price tier, credential level — not as revealed preference for the extremes but as the artefact of a specific removable rule that burdened the intermediate, so the fix is to change the rule rather than serve the extremes.
- Order-Batching Distortion — The supply-chain failure in which a lumpy ordering rule converts smooth downstream consumption into artificial order spikes and troughs, which each upstream tier misreads as real demand and amplifies — one of the four canonical causes of the bullwhip effect.
