Core Idea¶

Surviving-source visibility, reputational canon formation, retrospective diagnosis and changing language can confound estimates, so coding reliability and source sampling are central. Researchers define historical traits or outputs, sample texts and records across people and periods, code indicators and model patterns such as age-achievement curves, eminence or leadership effects.
