Memorialization¶
The socially organized preservation and public framing of collective memory through monuments, museums, ceremonies, archives, names and other commemorative practices.
Core Idea¶
Memorialization is the process by which communities or institutions preserve, stage and transmit collective memory of people or events. Selective representation, ritual repetition, spatial inscription and institutional stewardship stabilize a public account while counter-memories, reinterpretation and decommemoration contest it. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
