Mock-heroic¶
A satirical literary mode that applies elevated heroic style and epic conventions to trivial, foolish, or disproportionate subjects.
Core Idea¶
Mock-heroic deliberately creates comic incongruity by treating a low or ordinary subject with the diction, scale, invocations, battles, and machinery of heroic epic. Formal elevation magnifies the subject beyond proportion, so the gap between style and matter exposes vanity, convention, or social pretension.
