Supplementary weaving¶
A decorative weave structure adding extra warp or weft threads to form motifs over an independently coherent ground fabric.
Core Idea¶
Supplementary warp and weft, continuous and discontinuous insertion and regional traditions differ; the extra patterning system must be separable from the ground weave. Ground threads establish the load-bearing cloth while selected additional threads float, interlace or brocade across chosen intervals to create visible pattern. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of textile studies.
