User illusion¶
The metaphor that conscious experience is a simplified action-oriented interface generated from hidden processing rather than a transparent display of objective reality.
Core Idea¶
Borrowing from graphical interfaces, the view treats colors, objects, self-model, continuity, and accessible reasons as usable representations that compress or mask the neural and physical processes producing them. Extensive unconscious selection and integration construct a stable low-dimensional scene whose affordances guide decisions while latency, omissions, and confabulation remain outside ordinary awareness. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
