Ending the leverage is not the same as landing well. Once the war room stands down, the Post-Gradient Re-Equilibration Review convenes, deliberately a couple of weeks later so the dust has settled. It asks the archetype's exit questions plainly. How it works

  • Convene after the window closes. Hold it once the leverage has ended and short-term noise has faded — late enough to see the settled state, early enough that memory is intact.
  • Compare the end state to a defined baseline. Judge where the system landed against what a viable steady state looks like, so "still in emergency mode" is a finding rather than a feeling.
  • Check the gradient's status. Ask whether the driving pressure is exhausted, recurring, or was a finite window mistaken for a permanent engine.
  • Emit guardrail revisions, not live actions. Turn the findings into concrete changes to windows, stop rules, and budgets, each with an owner — the loop-closing output.

Tuning parameters

  • Timing after exit — how long to wait before convening. Too soon and raw noise dominates; too late and the details and the will to change have both evaporated.
  • Baseline definition — whether "viable" means the old equilibrium or a deliberately chosen new one. Restoring the old state is clean; settling a new one is powerful but must be stated, not drifted into.
  • Scope — this single episode versus the pattern across many. A single-incident review is sharp; a cross-incident one catches normalization the individual reviews each miss.
  • Framing — learning versus blame. A learning frame surfaces honest failure; a blame frame buys accountability at the cost of candor.

A subtler trap is mistaking a temporary lull for genuine re-equilibration and declaring victory while the system is merely between surges.
