How it works

Its distinguishing discipline is prospective and imaginative, not measured:

  • Assume it backfired — start from a vivid imagined outcome in which the reaction defeated the forecast, and reason back to its cause.
  • Enumerate channels — list every pathway the forecast could travel: official notice, media, social, word of mouth, and secondary actors who re-transmit it.
  • Model each audience — for each group the channels reach, characterize the reaction, its trigger, and how fast it moves.
  • Find the amplifier — flag the channel-and-reaction pair most likely to distort or self-fulfill the forecast, and hand it to disclosure and guidance design.

Tuning parameters

  • Channel breadth — how many pathways are enumerated. Broader coverage catches the surprising re-transmitter but costs facilitation time.

When it helps, and when it misleads

Its strength is cheap foresight at the one moment it is most useful — before release, when disclosure, guidance, and staging can still be redesigned.
