How it works¶
The exercise begins by selecting which scenarios from the space of possibilities deserve rehearsal — chosen by consequence, plausibility, and how untested the team's response is. A facilitator then walks the team through the sequence of decisions and handoffs, re-running the branch points that matter until the transitions are smooth, and injecting variants ("now the vendor is unreachable too") to stress the sequence against the unexpected. The rehearsed sequence is written into a playbook and into practiced roles. What distinguishes this mechanism is that it is selection- and variation-driven human rehearsal of a constructed sequence — its trace is built for the exercise, not captured from a real event.
Tuning parameters¶
- Scenario selection criteria — consequence, likelihood, or novelty. Weighting consequence rehearses the rare catastrophe; weighting likelihood rehearses the common case.
- Rerun depth — which branches get re-walked and how many times. Deeper grooves the hard decisions but lengthens the exercise.
