The Transition Signal Dashboard watches for change, not performance. A legacy automaker runs the classic three-horizon exposure: internal-combustion vehicles are the profit engine (Horizon One), a growing hybrid-and-EV line is the transition (Horizon Two), and software-defined and mobility-service models are the speculative future (Horizon Three). The risk is acting on the transition too slowly or too fast — either can be fatal. How it works¶
- Choose leading signals, not lagging outcomes. Track the early indicators that a curve is bending — adoption slopes, cost thresholds, regulatory dates, defection rates — well before they show up in revenue.
- Attach a threshold and an action to each. A signal is only useful if crossing it means something: maintain, scale, adapt, or retire. Bare charts are not a dashboard.
- Watch combinations, not just singletons. Many transition decisions turn on two or three signals crossing together; encode those conjunctions.
- Drive the rebalance loop. On a set cadence, review which signals have moved and re-open the portfolio balance where the evidence warrants — the monitoring feeds the recurring tension review.
Tuning parameters¶
