The structure separates what flows (the property) from what carries it (the link), and is warrant-neutral: the same shape covers the causal, the heuristic, and the fallacious.

It Rubs Off
If your best friend gets caught drawing on the wall, the teacher might think you helped too, just because you two are always together. Nothing about being friends actually means you drew on the wall — but people pass the blame along the friendship anyway. Sometimes that guess is fair, and sometimes it's totally unfair.

This is the pattern where a property — like reputation, blame, trust, or germs — flows along a CONNECTION between things, instead of flowing because of an actual cause or real evidence. The connection might be being in the same group, touching, standing near, getting an endorsement, or depending on each other. Compresses halo, contagion, taint, and reputation spillover into one diagnostic — which property, along which link, with what warrant? — with one five-move toolkit: sever, label, discount-with-distance, corroborate, refilter.
Abstract Reasoning¶
Formalised as a property-flow operator on a graph: the target's perceived property updates toward f(link, distance, time) times the source's, even when the actual property is independent — surfacing the central failure of borrowing one link type's warrant for another.
