Core Idea

Preparatory field conditioning is an upstream action that deliberately changes the environment or recipient state a later focal action will encounter. Getting the Ground Ready

Before you plant seeds, you water the ground the day before so it's soft. You don't change the seeds at all — you get the dirt ready. But if you water too early, the dirt dries out again, so you have to do it at the right time.

Prepare the Path First

Preparatory Field Conditioning means getting the 'ground' ready before the main action, so the main action works better when it comes. You don't change the main action at all; you change the place or stuff it has to go through. A painter puts primer on a wall so the paint sticks better. An upstream act with neither lead time nor decay is simply a switch, not conditioning.
