Preparatory Field Conditioning¶
Core Idea¶
Preparatory field conditioning is an upstream action that deliberately changes the environment or recipient state a later focal action will encounter. Its value is mediated by an explicit intermediate state, whose lead time and reversion window determine when the focal action becomes cheaper, feasible, or more effective.
The canonical identity is narrower than the phrase’s everyday use. A focal downstream action, a distinct earlier action, a target field state, a causal model from that state to focal performance, lead time, duration or decay, and coordinated timing are required. The upstream action is evaluated through the state it creates.
Structural Signature¶
- There is a focal downstream action that directly pursues an outcome.
- A distinct upstream action targets the field, environment, or recipient state the focal action will encounter.
- The upstream action has an explicit intermediate field-state target.
- A mediating model explains how that state changes the focal action's cost, feasibility, or effectiveness.
- Upstream value is assessed through the intermediate state rather than direct completion of the focal outcome.
- The state requires lead-time to form and has a duration or reversion rate that defines an action window.
What It Is Not¶
Preparation can ready the actor rather than its field. Sequencing supplies order without a mediating state transformation. Priming is a psychological or biological subtype. Infrastructure supplies persistent enabling capacity and need not be timed to one focal action.

- Dependency alone states reliance without an upstream intervention, state target, or mediation model.
- Leverage concerns input-output ratio within an action, not a paired upstream/downstream sequence.
