Core Idea

Appeal to probability, also called appeal to possibility, is the recurring inference error that treats \(\Pr(P)>0\) or \(\Diamond P\) as sufficient to conclude that \(P\) is likely, inevitable, or actual without an additional warranted bridge. A speaker shifts unnoticed among modal possibility, positive measure, high probability, eventual occurrence under repeated independent trials, and present actuality, allowing a weak premise to inherit the force of a much stronger conclusion.

Its autonomous residual is the unsupported possibility-to-probability-or-actuality promotion, not every probabilistic argument, cautious scenario analysis, an explicit lower-bound calculation, or the theorem that repeated trials can make occurrence likely under stated conditions.
