Propositional attitude¶
A belief-like, desire-like, or intention-like mental stance that an agent bears toward propositionally structured content.
Core Idea¶
A propositional attitude combines an attitude type, an agent, and a proposition, commonly represented by constructions such as believing, hoping, fearing, or intending that p. The attitude mode changes the direction of fit, inferential role, and behavioral significance of the same propositional content while intensional contexts block ordinary substitution rules. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
