Radical constructivism¶
An epistemology treating knowledge as viable organization of experience rather than verifiable correspondence with a mind-independent world.
Core Idea¶
Associated with Ernst von Glasersfeld, radical constructivism argues that cognition actively constructs experiential regularities and that reality beyond experience cannot be accessed to test representational correspondence. Agents retain conceptual schemes that successfully coordinate experience and action; perturbation drives accommodation, but viability replaces truth-as-mirroring as the evaluative criterion. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
