The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: Each new addition looks small, routine, or harmless. But the total retained load keeps growing in a reservoir that ordinary metrics do not measure — a team absorbing technical debt, a habitat accumulating a persistent chemical, a balance sheet collecting deferred obligations. Pivot: Name the reservoir and make stored load observable. Constrain new inflow, improve clearance or removal, and contain spread. Treat prevention, budgeting, containment, and source reduction as distinct decisions rather than collapsing them into a single vague cleanup.
