Bioaccumulation Prevention¶
Prevent slow buildup of substances, risks, obligations, or burdens that accumulate faster than they are cleared.
The Diagnostic Story¶
Symptom: Each new addition looks small, routine, or harmless. But the total retained load keeps growing in a reservoir that ordinary metrics do not measure — a team absorbing technical debt, a habitat accumulating a persistent chemical, a balance sheet collecting deferred obligations. Problems appear to arrive suddenly because the buildup was invisible. Cleanups are postponed because no single increment felt urgent enough to justify the disruption.
Pivot: Name the reservoir and make stored load observable. Constrain new inflow, improve clearance or removal, and contain spread. Treat prevention, budgeting, containment, and source reduction as distinct decisions rather than collapsing them into a single vague cleanup.

Diagnostic problem
A system stores, retains, or concentrates repeated inputs while ordinary decision logic treats those inputs as transient. Because the accumulating stock is hidden, distributed, or slow to show symptoms, the organization keeps adding burden until delayed harm, toxicity, overload, debt, or fragility becomes difficult to reverse.
What this problem means
The structural problem is a mismatch between event-level approval and stock-level harm. Each new input may be small enough to approve, but the reservoir remembers. Technical shortcuts remain in a codebase, fatigue remains in a team, exceptions remain in governance, pollutants remain in an environment, stale access remains in systems, and trust loss remains in an audience.
Because the stock is hidden or slow-moving, the system discovers the problem late. At that point, the relevant intervention is often no longer a small adjustment; it is cleanup, repair, repayment, containment, or crisis recovery.
