Contextual Selective Propagation

When a meaning changes in one context, decide where that changed meaning should travel, where it should be translated, and where it should remain bounded.

The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: A term that was precise in its origin community spreads into adjacent contexts where it widens, narrows, or accumulates connotations it was never meant to carry. People appear to agree because they use the same word, but when examples are requested the disagreement surfaces immediately. Policies, training materials, and operational rules lag behind actual usage, so the organization runs on incompatible local definitions of the same signifier.

Pivot: Represent the semantic change as a context-pathway system: map which channels and communities are receiving the changed meaning, decide where the meaning should propagate as-is, where it needs translation, and where it should be bounded or versioned. The goal is not to freeze meaning but to govern its movement consciously.

Resolution: Which meaning is active in which context is now traceable, and operational rules are not silently running on different definitions. Transfer across specialist, public, and policy contexts happens through deliberate translation rather than drift. The organization gains the ability to update propagation rules as evidence about uptake and harm accumulates.
