Create a salient, safe knowledge gap that motivates exploration and learning.

The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: Participants encounter important material and move past it without pausing to wonder. There is no felt gap — either the question is answered before it has been felt, or the unknown is so vague and threatening that no one wants to approach it. Engagement looks like compliance: people are present, they nod, but no one is actually pursuing anything.

Pivot: Design a visible and meaningful gap between current understanding and a reachable target. Connect the gap to something that matters to the audience, bound the exploration space so the gap feels approachable rather than vast, and supply a first probe that converts the felt absence into an actual search. The gap must be genuine — not a rhetorical setup that reveals the answer immediately.

Resolution: The audience has something to pursue rather than something to absorb, and exploration produces results that generate further questions. The learning loop closes because the gap was designed to be felt, approachable, and connected to something that matters — not to trap attention but to direct it.
