Opportunity Cost Surfacing

Make the best forgone alternative explicit so choices account for what they displace.

The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: Resources, time, attention, and capacity keep getting committed to individually defensible proposals while the most valuable alternatives stay absent from the room, the dashboard, and the budget view. Each commitment appears cheap or harmless in isolation, but the displaced option is counterfactual, delayed, and politically quiet — so the real cost of saying yes stays invisible until it's too late to recover it.

Pivot: Reframe the decision around the scarce resource it consumes; enumerate viable alternative uses; identify the best forgone alternative; estimate the value being displaced; and make that sacrifice part of the decision record and review cadence — so every yes is also an explicit no to something concrete.

Resolution: Allocation becomes more disciplined; overcommitment decreases; cancellation and stopping decisions improve because the accepted sacrifice and its assumptions are recorded; and quiet but important work gets protection because it finally appears in the comparison.
