Make abstraction inseparable from place by translating content into the spatial, light, material, and temporal relations of a particular site.

The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: The work reads as generic or imposed: it could be moved to a different site with no meaningful change in how it is interpreted. Lighting and circulation conditions that the design ignored are undermining the intended meaning in actual use. Only one privileged viewpoint makes the work legible; ordinary users encounter obstruction or confusion. Stakeholders describe the work as decorative, placeless, or disrespectful to the site's history, even though the concept seemed strong in renderings.

Pivot: Use the site as an abstraction medium rather than a display backdrop. Strip the subject to formal relations — geometry, light, movement, threshold, scale, temporal change — that the site can carry, then map those relations into spatial, material, and light interactions calibrated to the site's actual conditions and viewer encounter paths.

Resolution: Abstract form becomes more legible and resonant because it is inseparable from the place: light, shadow, void, scale, and path carry content that literal depiction would have forced. Site constraints become expressive resources, and the work's interpretation would change materially if it were relocated. Design review can evaluate site fit with explicit criteria rather than taste.
