Deterritorialization¶
In Deleuze and Guattari's critical theory, the process by which relations, signs or practices are loosened from an established organizing context and made available for reconfiguration.
Core Idea¶
Deterritorialization is normally paired with reterritorialization: capitalism, language, desire and culture can dissolve one coding while simultaneously installing another, and relative and absolute forms differ across texts. Flows or components exceed the boundaries and codes that fixed their roles, severing established connections; new assemblages capture and recode them into another provisional territory. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
