The Opening Trigger Protocol is the single authorization gate that turns a reading of "the substrate is receptive" into a sanctioned "go." The Opening Trigger Protocol is the burn boss's written go/no-go gate. It carries two locked conditions. First, the prescription: every environmental parameter must sit inside its authorized range at ignition, as read off the monitoring instruments. Second, the readiness confirmation: engines staffed, water on site, holding crews posted, the contingency line cut, notifications sent. On the morning of, humidity drops into band and wind is favorable — the threshold is met — but a water tender is still en route. The protocol does not fire. It waits the forty minutes for the tender to arrive, re-reads the parameters, confirms they still hold, and only then authorizes ignition. The outcome is that action begins exactly when both the window and the crew are ready, and not a moment before either.
How it works¶
The distinctive machinery is a two-key gate. One key is the threshold condition — an explicit, pre-agreed rule (a value crossed, a signal confirmed, a phase read of open from the sensing layer) that says the substrate is genuinely receptive, not merely convenient to treat. The other key is the prepositioning check — a standing confirmation that the materials, authority, people, and communications the action needs are already in place. A named authorizer must turn both keys; missing either means hold, not go. Because the rule is committed in advance, the decision under pressure is a verification, not a debate.
Tuning parameters¶
