A per-action check that the intervention's form, intensity, pace, and support match what the substrate can absorb in its current window phase.

The Window-Fit Checklist governs what the intervention looks like once the window is open, not whether to act. Its defining idea is that an open window is permission to do a fitted thing, not anything: the same substrate that can absorb a gentle, scaffolded version of a change will bounce off, or be harmed by, a heavy unscaffolded one delivered in the same moment. The checklist walks the actor through the match — is this the right class of intervention for this substrate, and are its intensity, pace, content, and support inside the band the substrate can currently take up? It is a shaping instrument, run each time an action is about to land, sitting downstream of the decision to act and upstream of any decision to stop.

Example

A tutor is working with a student who has just gotten the first few multiplication facts to click. The window is open — the learner can succeed with hints. The Window-Fit Checklist is a short card the tutor runs before choosing the next problem. Class: is this guided practice (fitted) or independent mastery (too far ahead)? Guided. Intensity: one new fact layered onto the secured ones, not five. Pace: let the student attempt before the hint lands, not narrate over them. Support: keep the visual array available, fade the finger-counting. Content: stay in the times tables that build on what just stuck, don't jump to word problems. Each line is a match test against the learner's current reach. The outcome is a challenge the student can clear with just enough help — hard enough to grow, soft enough not to fail — because the tutor fitted the task to the phase instead of delivering a fixed lesson plan.

How it works

The distinctive machinery is a fit test, not a timing test. Two things get checked. Tuning parameters
