Strategic Juxtaposition

Place disparate elements side by side so their relationship reveals a difference, similarity, contradiction, or emergent meaning that would remain hidden in isolation.

The Diagnostic Story

Symptom: Elements are being evaluated in isolation even though their relationship is what matters. People agree with two claims separately but notice the contradiction only when they are shown together. A design, policy, or argument appears acceptable in its own frame but becomes clearly problematic when placed beside what it is supposed to respond to. Evidence supporting different positions is dispersed across separate documents, meetings, or conversations, and arguments repeat because each side presents only its own frame.

Pivot: Select the elements whose relationship matters, place them in deliberate proximity with a framing that names the relevant relation, and preserve enough context around each element for the comparison to be fair rather than misleading.

Resolution: Hidden differences, similarities, contradictions, or analogies become visible because they can now be perceived relationally rather than requiring mental reconstruction across separate encounters. The comparison creates a legitimate path to a decision, diagnosis, revision, or next inquiry that isolation could not have produced.
