Order cognitive tasks so people build prerequisites before handling higher-complexity reasoning, synthesis, decision, or performance.
The Diagnostic Story¶
Symptom: People are asked to decide before they understand, synthesize before they have context, or perform before they have built the prerequisite distinctions. Meetings cycle through the same arguments because participants are reasoning from incompatible mental models that nobody reconciled at the start. Participants feel overwhelmed even when no single step is inherently too difficult — because they are doing six kinds of cognitive work simultaneously.
Pivot: Map the cognitive dependencies of the target reasoning or performance, then reorder the workflow so prerequisite-building steps precede the steps that depend on them. The intervention is not about slowing down — it is about making the same total work tractable by ensuring people arrive at each step with what that step actually requires.

What this problem means
